Pits of chariots and horses excavated at Ruins of Yin

Archeologists work at the pits of chariots and horses in the ruins of Yin, in Anyang city of central China's Henan province May 25.

After five months' excavation, archeologists have discovered seven pits of chariots and horses of late Shang Dynasty (about 3,300 years ago) in the ruins of Yin, in Anyang city of central China's Henan province.

Five nobleman's pits of chariots and horses that are arranged in a line and a double-edged bronze sword were discovered for the first time in the history of excavation of ruins of Yin.

Archeologists said the discovery of the pits is of paramount importance for study of the appearance, the purpose of chariots and system for chariot use in Shang Dynasty.
