Lebanon asks Syria to withdraw mobile phone operating station

Lebanon has asked Syria to withdraw a mobile phone operating station in northern Lebanon, local press reported Friday.

The Lebanese information ministry gives its Syrian counterpart one week to remove the station, otherwise it will take unilateral actions, the report said.

The dispute emerged after Syria introduced two mobile phone operators in the Lebanese territories, offering overlapping service and eroding profits of Lebanese operators.

One of the two stations has been withdrawn.

Lebanon has been contacting Syria on this issue, but received no reply, which prompted Lebanon to issue an official request for the removal.
