Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG) Michael Somare met in Port Moresby Sunday with Wang Jiarui, minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee, both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Somare, who is also chairman of the Papua New Guinea Party, said that the ties between the two parties as well as the two countries are developing well.
As the ruling party of PNG, the Papua New Guinea Party attaches great importance to the development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries, he said.
The prime minister stressed that both his government and party will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy.
Wang jiarui expressed his appreciation for PNG's adherence to the "one-China" policy, adding that the CCP and the Chinese government will continue to push forward the healthy and stable development of the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
The Chinese official, who led a CCP delegation, arrived here on May 29 for a good-will visit at the invitation of the Papua New Guinea Party.
