The Tianjin Customs in north China has seized 62 contraband ivory articles from a postal parcel mailed from Uganda, which constitutes the largest seizure of ivory wares by the customs in recent years, the customs source said.

The seized ivory articles tracked down by X ray machine in the customs are in varieties and in various shapes with delicate craftsmanship, which include necklaces, bracelets, rings, seals and walking sticks.

China has enacted a series of laws and regulations banning trade as well as entry and exit of the ivory products in light of the International Convention on the Protection of the Endangered Animals and Plants.

The case of the contraband ivory articles is being further handled by the customs, the source said.
