China has 120,000 students in colleges of nationalitiesChina now has 13 universities or colleges for nationalities, with more than 120,000 students on campus and nearly 7,000 full-time teachers. About 70 percent of these students are ethnic minorities, as learned from a press conference by the Information Office, the State Council, on May 30. According to Li Wenliang, spokesman for the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, these institutions of higher learning mainly serve minority nationality regions and therefore bear distinct features in faculty designing. A quite complete teaching and education system has been established, covering academic fields as liberal arts, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, fine arts and administration. At the same time, a multi-layered education pattern has been formed focusing on undergraduate students and covering students of higher academic levels as well as cadres. Employment of graduates from these collages is quite good, since they are precious human resources in minority nationality regions, Li said, or we may say they are backup force for high-level staff in these areas.
