Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer on Tuesday in Ankara met with visiting Chinese Chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army Liang Guanglie over ties between the two countries and armies.

Sezer said Turkey respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and continuously pursues "One China Policy".

Turkey and China are two important states in Asia, which have made great contributions to peace and stability in the region and the world, Sezer said.

Appreciating China's great achievements in politics, economy and culture in recent years, Sezer said Turkey attaches great importance to the further development of friendly ties between the two countries and armies.

On his part, Liang said the Chinese government and army also attach great importance to developing ties with the Turkish government and army.

Before their meeting, Turkish Army Chief of the General Staff Hilmi Ozkok held talks with Liang and they exchanged views on cooperation between the two armies and mutually concerned international issues.

Liang and his delegation arrived in Ankara late on Monday for a five-day visit to Turkey at the invitation of the Turkish armed forces.
