Japan seeks China's cooperation in solving energy disputes
font size

Japan and China can work together to resolve their energy problems, although individual issues need to be dealt with separately, the Japanese government's top spokesman said Wednesday.

"If possible, for example, we want to see China increase the ratio of nuclear power generation from the viewpoint of preventing global warming," Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said.

He noted that Japan can provide its atomic power generation technology to China as a step to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of energy.

Hosoda made the comments at a press conference after the meeting over gas projects in East China Sea between Japanese and Chinese governments on Tuesday.

The Chinese gas projects are among individual energy issues that "need to be sorted out", according to Hosoda.

In two days of talks that ended in Beijing on Tuesday, the two sides exchanged views on launching negotiations about the demarcation of the continental shelf of the East China Sea and promoting the joint development of the marine resource in the area.
