Indonesia's foreign tourist arrival decreases in first 4 months

The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in the first four months this year reached 1.34 million or slightly decreased by 1.41 percent compared to the sameperiod in 2004, the Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) said in Jakarta Wednesday.

The decline was attributed to the seasonality of tourism, the head of the BPS Choirul Maksum said.

But the number of foreign tourist arrival in the beautiful resort of Bali from January to April jumped up by 8.88 percent over the same period last year, reaching 456,926 people, he said.

Indonesia's tourist industry was hit by the financial crisis in Southeastern Asia in 1997 and has been recuperating slowly.
