Russian and US lawmakers accepted a joint statement on fighting international terrorism and drug trafficking at their joint session of the two countries' lower houses of parliaments held here on Wednesday, according to the Interfax news agency.
The document was signed by the US Congress's International Relations Committee chief Henry Hyde and Russian Duma International Affairs Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachyov.
The statement embodies recommendations to consider a number of bills aimed at eliminating the sources of the financing of terrorism and countering drug trafficking and international crime.
Commenting on the results of the joint session, Kosachev said the sides agreed to hold such meetings at least twice a year, Itar- Tass reported.
According to him, the sides did not sidestep sensitive themes during the debate, and the Russian and American MPs discussed four sets of questions -- opposition to terrorism, problems of strategic instability, interaction in the post-Soviet space and problems of commercial and economic cooperation.
Henry Hyde, in his turn, noted that the meeting had been an excellent function, at which the sides managed to discuss a number of most important problems.
He also expressed his hope that every effort will be made to continue the dialogue.
