The 58th World Newspaper Congress and the 12th World Editors Forum (WEF) were held in Seoul, capital of the Republic of Korea (ROK) from May 29 to June 1.
ROK President Roh Moo-hyun gave a speech at the opening ceremony. 1,200 delegates from the press of 79 countries and regions attended the conference.
The delegation of China's People's Daily led by Jiang Shaogao, deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper and the delegation of Chinese Newspaper Association attended the conference.
The theme of the conference is "Exploiting Innovation and Seizing Opportunities: the Keys to Success."
Jiang Shaogao delivered speeches at a lucheon party on the development in the Chinese newspaper industry and a meeting between WEF and Chinese media. Jiang also attended activities such as the meeting between WEF and ROK prime minister Lee Hae-chan.
Jiang said that China's newspaper industry formed its own mode during its development, that is adherence to the top priority of the interests of the country and the people, objectivity and justice, as well as performance of social responsibility to realize a leap-forward development.
The circulation of newspapers hits 90 million in China, taking up the largest share of 22 percent of the world's total, which is a major contribution to the world newspaper industry.
