From this year on, the credibility record of college entrance examinees in China will be taken as an evaluation index by universities and colleges, a senior official with the Ministry of Education said here Thursday.

Statistics show that around 8 million people will attend the college entrance examination in June this year. The official said the credibility record of examinees will be recorded in a nationwide data bank, and submitted to colleges and universities as reference.

Following last year's effective practice, the official said allcollege entrance examinees will be required to sign a contract andclaim not to cheat in the exam.

China's education administrations have tightened control on test discipline in recent years, and the efforts have paid off, the official said.

In 2004, 3,100 students received punishment for violating the discipline of the exam, and the figure was the lowest since 1995. And 110 staff working for the exam were also dealt with, among which 11 were sentenced to imprisonment.

Specific regulations on officials and teaching staff in charge of examination and enrollment work will also be issued and implemented this year. The supervision on the college entrance exam will focus on organized practice fraud or cheat in exam by using modern telecommunication tool, the official revealed.
