China to host 3 commercial industry fairs

China will host three large commercial industry fairs in the second half of this year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Each fair will feature different industries of retail, food andthe catering, said Di Jiankai, director of commercial reform department of the ministry, at a news briefing here Friday. All will be sponsored by the ministry.

The 2005 China Retail Fair will be held from September 8 to 10 in Beijing, while the 2005 China Food Fair will be held on September 21-23 in Ningbo, a city of east China's Zhejiang Province, and 2005 China Catering Industry Fair, on October 21-23 in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Di said that in the next few years, China will adopt effective measures to tap the domestic market and promote consumption. To speed up the reforms of commercial industry, the ministry will actively join in organizing a batch of large-scale fairs and try to foster brand-name fairs.

These fairs will be the largest ones in their own fields in thecountry, said Di. He said that the retail fair will cover an exhibition area of 35,000 square meters, while the food fair will cover 50,000 square meters and catering industry fair will cover 100,000 square meters.

All the preparatory work of the three fairs is smoothly underway, said Di.
