The Fifth National Congress of the Chinese Young Pioneers (CYP) came to an end Friday in Beijing, after it approved a resolution on the report of the CYP congress and a resolution on the amendment of the Charter of the CYP.
Zhao Yong, an executive member of the Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Youth League, addressed the closing of the congress, calling it an important event for the CYP at a new historic starting point.
Zhao spoke highly of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders' meeting with the delegates, saying it has further clarified the "historic" mission for young children and the " glorious" tasks for the CYP and become the guide for the work of the CYP in the new period.
Zhao was elected the director of the National Committee on the Work of the Chinese Young Pioneers, while Chen Xiaoya and Zhang Xiaolan were elected his deputies.
Thirty-one members of the CYP were elected into the National Committee for the first time.
