Uganda earmarks 100 million dollars for hydro-electricity power station
font size

The Ugandan government has set aside 100 million US dollars for the construction of another hydro- electricity power station.

This was announced by President Yoweri Museveni when opening the 4th eastern regional trade fair at Mbale Municipal Stadium, according to a local report reaching here on Friday.

Museveni said the government welcomed co-investors to the project to ease load shedding and enhance industrial production.

"I have already put aside 100 US dollars. Co-investors are welcome. However, if they do not come, we shall do it ourselves," Museveni said.

Uganda is currently facing a power shortage of 110 MW between supply and demand during the evening peak demand time and about 25 MW during the day or shoulder period.

Museveni also appealed to industrialists to produce goods for the east African market, which comprises 100 million people.
