Mozambican President Armando Guebuzaon Saturday promised that there will be no further wars in Mozambique, and called on all citizens to commit themselves to consolidating national unity, peace and democracy.
Addressing a rally in the capital's urban district Catembe, Guebuza said the government was committed to tackling the obstacles to the country's progress, including corruption, crime and red tape.
"With the support of the government, national unity will be strengthened, from the Rovuma to the Maputo (the rivers that mark the northern and southern boundaries of the country), because this is where the strength of our Mozambican identity lies," said Guebuza.
He stressed that without national unity, it will be impossible to attain the government's development goals.
As in all his rallies as he tours the country, Guebuza assured his audience that "the promises made during last year's election campaign will all be kept."
The population of Catembe wants the government to solve their most pressing problems, which include defective water supply and unemployment.
Local businessmen and other influential Catembe figures asked for government incentives to develop activities that would contribute to poverty reduction.
