Kuwaiti speaker criticizes US ambassador over remarks on Iran

Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi criticized US Ambassador to Kuwait Richard LeBaron for uttering remarks against Iran in a lecture last week, the official KUNA news agency reported Saturday.

"The job of the ambassador is known and it is not within his jurisdiction to raise matters related to the sovereignty of the state where he stays or related to view of the state", the speaker said, referring to the ambassador's remarks against Iran in an address at a Kuwaiti college.

"As we respect views of others and refrain from interfering in their particulars, all should not interfere in our particulars and should not transfer their battles with any other state into Kuwait," Al-Kharafi was quoted as saying.

"We in the State of Kuwait do not accept in any way ever intervention in our country's sovereignty," he said, adding "We are keen on pursuing our good relations with all and all should respect this relations."

Last Monday, LeBaron criticized Tehran for its "appalling human rights record, its pursuit of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, its interference in the internal affairs of Iraq, its opposition to the Middle East peace process and its sponsorship of terror."
