Donald Tsang, who announced his decision to run for the chief executive (CE) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Thursday, continued talks with two groups of Election Committee members respectively on Sunday.

After meeting about 170 members from the social, welfare sector and the professional sector, Tsang said to reporters that questions raised by the members dealt with economy, law, medicine, public servants, arts and culture, as well as social welfare.

He expressed satisfaction over his dialogues with a total of four different groups of people of the Election Committee on Saturday and Sunday.

Tsang said he emphasized two major subjects during the dialogues -- enhancing governance and developing economy in an all around way.

He believed that the government policies, adopted after obtaining consensus from the public, should be firmly implemented and should not be chop and change in a short time. If the government failed to keep faith, it would lose the trust of citizens.

He pledged that if he was elected, the government would become one that could listen and contain different views and represent the public opinions. The government would also be a people-based one.

On the economic development, Tsang said the aim of economic development is to promote sustainable vitality of Hong Kong and its result should be to improve the livelihood of people and raise the employment rate.

Tsang said if he was elected, he would pay special attention to problems faced by the disadvantaged people and make a more rational allocation of social service resources.

The Hong Kong Election Committee has been formed in accordance with the Basic Law and related Hong Kong laws. It has 796 people from four groups.
