Guardian, China's major auctioneer, will launch an auction from June 10 to 12 with about 2,800 articles, which include paintings, calligraphy works, porcelain wares, clocks, watches and cameras.
Ma Zhefei, a manager with China Guardian Auctions Co. Ltd., said that the coming auction will be smaller than its Spring auction held in mid May, which boasted a total trading volume above 600 million yuan (72.6 million US dollars). But the articles will be no less attractive due to relatively cheaper prices.
Ma said over 1,700 painting and calligraphy works will show up in the auction, and 300 are classic works by artists of ancient times, such as Zheng Banqiao and Shi Tao.
The articles to be auctioned also include more than 800 antique porcelain wares, lacquerware, bronze wares, Buddha sculptures and other handicraft works.
A jewel box specifically made for Qing Dynasty Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) to collect various jade wares and small-sized antiques is expected to draw greater attention from collectors.
In addition, the auction will also sell nearly 300 clocks, watches and cameras, which include more than 10 Vacheron Constantin pocket and wrist watches made in different periods and a batch of ancient clocks returned to China from overseas markets.
