25 passengers killed by landmine in Nepal
font size

At least 25 people were killed and 30 to 35 others injured when a bus was exploded by a landmine Monday morning in central Nepal, an army official said.

The passenger bus met the explosion at 9:30 a.m. local time (0345GMT) at Thori area of Chitwan district, near Nepal's southern border to India, some 150 km southwest of Kathmandu.

The bus fell into the river after the explosion, said army major Sushil Dahal from Royal Nepalese Army's Public Relations Directorate.

Although nobody has claimed responsibility for the explosion, the army suspects the anti-government guerrillas behind it, Dahal said by telephone.

"We are leaving for the incident spot by a helicopter as quickly as possible to collect details," he added.
