font size

China published a book of selected manuscripts of late Chinese leader Chen Yun on the eve of the centenary of his birthday to honor his outstanding contributions to the country.

A ceremony was held in Beijing Tuesday to celebrate the first publication of the book, which contains 138 manuscripts ranging from inscriptions to letters and telegraphs.

Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the ceremony and donated some copies of the book to Chen's family members.

Li Ruihuan, former Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, inscribed the name for the book.

An eight-episode TV documentary on Chen Yun is scheduled to be aired on the No. 1 Channel of China Central Television soon.

Chen, a native of Shanghai, was a veteran member of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) and had long held important leading positions in the CPC's Central Committee. He bowed out of the CPC Central Committee at the 13th CPC National Congress in 1987, and became chairman of the CPC's Central Advisory Commission, an important advisory body to the party's top decision-makers.

He passed away in 1995 in Beijing, at the age of 90.
