German, Chinese defense officials stress military cooperation

German Defense Minister Peter Struck discussed on June 6 with a top Chinese defense official military cooperation between the two countries.

In talks with Chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army, Liang Guanglie, Struck said the German side is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese military, which are not only in the interests of the two countries but also conducive to regional and world peace and stability.

Liang said China and Germany share broad common interests on important issues like safeguarding world peace and promoting common development. Good relations have helped deepen mutual trust in political and military fields, contributing to the strategic partnership of the two countries, Liang said.

In a separate meeting with Liang on Monday, German Inspector General of the Federal Defense Forces Wolfgang Schneiderhan exchanged views over international and regional security issues and discussed military cooperation between the two countries.

Liang and his delegation arrived in Berlin on Sunday for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Schneiderhan.
