A workshop was held at the Great Hall of the People, in central Beijing, Tuesday, to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zhu Xuefan (1905-96), an outstanding patriotic and democratic fighter and statesman.

Present at the meeting was Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau.

Zhu, a native of Jinshan, Shanghai, was the late honorary chairman of Central Committee of Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK).

During the 1930s and 1940s, Zhu was a trade union leader in China and the world, and in 1947, he co-founded the RCCK. After the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, he became the first minister of post and telecommunications.

Since the launching of China's reform and opening drive in 1978, Zhu had led the members of the RCCK to work on the peaceful reunification of the motherland. He was a vice chairman the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the parliament.

Speaking at the workshop, He Luli, chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee and chairman of the RCCK Central Committee, praised Zhu for his great contribution to China's workers' movement, post and telecommunications industry, and the multi- party cooperation led by the CPC.

The workshop was presided over by Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice chairman of the RCCK Central Committee.
