Transnational groups enter Chinese water market
font size

Along with the improvement of the marketization of the water market, the completion of water industry in China has been acknowledged by the international community. Some major transnational water groups have already entered the Chinese market. Qiu Baoxing, vice minister of construction, noted that China would try to ensure the urban water supply.

Speaking at the press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council on June 7, Qui said that China is now vigorously pressing ahead the reform of investment and financing structures of water industry, and has set up the multi-channeled and diversified investment mechanism involving both the government and market, encouraging social fund and foreign capital to participate in the construction and management of municipal public utilities in the forms of solely-funded entities, or partnership.

Meanwhile, the relevant departments now are pushing forward the reform of property rights of those enterprises engaging in municipal pubic undertakings, making businesses the main players and government the supervisor on the market, establishing a well-regulated competitive environment.

The regulatory will set market access and watch the whole process of operation involving water quality, cost, water price and service, etc, to secure the fair competition on the market and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the public and investors.
