Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met in Beijing with Jeronimo Carvalho de Sousa, general secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), in Beijing on June 8.
Li said the CPC and the PCP have maintained friendly relations, and their relationship has strengthened over recent years. He noted that China would like to promote exchange with all major parties of Portugal to advance a healthy and stable development of Sino-Portuguese relations.
Li briefed the guests on China's reform and opening-up policy as well as the CPC's ruling capability construction. He also expressed gratitude for the support of Portugal on return of Macao to the motherland, and on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.
Jeronimo Carvalho de Sousa said the CPC is a great party, which dedicated itself to the wholehearted service of people, and it plays important role in the world today.
He voiced the hope to further the relations between the PCP and CPC, and the cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
