China to build 5 major grain logistics corridors
font size

An official with the National Development and Reform Commission revealed that China would build 5 major modernized corridors to facilitate grain circulation, which run across the northeast, the Yellow River-Huaihe River area, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River (including Sichuan Province), the southeast coastal area and Beijing-Tianjin.

The official briefed the present situation at an international forum for the modernized grain logistics in Hangzhou on June 8. The southeast coastal area as a grain consumption region is equipped with inadequate capacity of grain reserves, backward transshipment infrastructure, and poor unloading failing to meet the needs of the actual demands.

The grain reserve depots are currently mainly located in the northeast, along the Yellow River-Huaihe River and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River which are grain growers.

This move is a step toward the progress on reform of the grain circulation system and a complete lay-out of major grain logistics channels.
