Local customs in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, seized 117.8 kilograms of opium on June 5, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) of China said on Friday.
This is the largest opium smuggling operation uncovered by Chinese customs in history, the GAC said. One suspect was detained.
Due to the price hike of opium, a raw material for various drugs on the black market, criminals have been trying to smuggle more opium across the border, according to the GAC.
