Bolivian acting President Eduardo Rodriguez arrived Friday in the Presidential Palace at the city of La Paz to start performing his duties, according to reports reaching here from Bolivia.

Rodriguez was welcomed at the entrance of the palace by outgoing president Carlos Mesa, according to dispatches from La paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia.

Under Bolivia's Constitution, Rodriguez is to call for elections within six months.

Prior to traveling to La Paz, Rodriguez asked demonstrators to solve the political crisis in Bolivia in a peaceful way.

The demonstrators demand a new constitution and the nationalization of oil and gas.
