The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) released two militants who were detained for involvement in the Tel Aviv bombing attack, Palestinian security sources said Friday.
Sadiq Odeh and Jasser Kob were set free late Thursday from a jail in the West Bank city of Jericho, after a committee led by Interior Minister Nasser Youssef cleared them of involvement in the Feb. 25 attack in a Tel Aviv nightclub which killed five Israelis, the sources said.
The release came as a goodwill gesture by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to militants, who have renewed rocket attacks at Israeli targets, shattering a de facto truce declared by Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at a Feb. 8 summit in Egypt.
The PNA is expected to release more militants held for the bombing on condition that they remain in the West Bank, the sources added.
Abbas has been struggling to maintain the truce, which was also agreed in March by the Palestinian militants to abide by, to clear the way for future final-status talks with Israel.
Abbas also agreed to coordinate a planned Israeli withdrawal from all Gaza and part of the West Bank in mid-August with the Palestinian militant groups, mainly Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
