Gunmen kill 11 in attack south of Baghdad
font size

Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a minibus travelling south of Baghdad on Saturday, killing 11 people aboard and wounding three others, police said.

The shooting occurred at 10:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) when the gunmen in at least two cars ambushed the minibus and riddled it with bullets, killing at least 11 construction workers and wounding three others in an area dubbed as the "triangle of death" just south of Baghdad, the police said. The victims were heading to a construction project in an American base in Baghdad when the attack took place, they added.

Anti-American forces in Iraq often target civilians working for American projects with kidnappings and armed attacks.
