Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan pledged on Friday to take effective measures to promote trade and investment between the two countries.
During a meeting with Zeng, Fradkov said Russian-Chinese cooperation is expanding and yielding encouraging results, and Russia will work more closely with China in international affairs and stands ready to work together with China toward a higher level of bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas including economy, technology and culture.
Zeng, for his part, said Chinese-Russian ties maintained a strong momentum in recent years. Mutual political trust is continually deepening and economic ties are growing ever stronger,and the strategic partnership between the two countries are developing in scope and depth, Zeng said. The Chinese vice premier said strengthening cooperation in the oil, gas and power sectors will help both countries take the advantages they respectively have in economy, finance, technology and market, and therefore supplement each other in economic growth.
Zeng expressed his hope that both governments will work to better the environment for investment and trade and improve relevant legislation. Work needs to be stepped up on the signing of an agreement on mutual protection of investment, he said.
