Moroccan student Mounir al-Motassadeq, who is standing on a second trial for his alleged role in the Sept. 11 terror attacks in 2001, is set to resist deportation from Germany to Morocco, his lawyer said Saturday.
German news weekly Der Spiegel quoted his lawyer Udo Jacob as saying that Motassadeq would resist a deportation order handed down to him last year "to the last court of appeal."
He would insist on staying in Germany till finishing a degree at a technical university in suburban Hamburg, Der Spiegel released the story before carrying it on Monday.
Motassadeq, who is free on bail, was verdicted and sentenced 15 years in prison at his first trial, and the ruling was overturned on appeal. He was suspected helping three of the Sept. 11 terror attackers who were Hamburg students.
Another Moroccan, Abdelghani Mzoudi, who was on Thursday confirmed a 'not guilty' verdict by German federal court, would voluntarily return to Morocco, the lawyer said.
