A senior Palestinian official revealed on Sunday that Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei will be commissioned to form a new cabinet after the legislative elections.
The official, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, told Xinhua that the reshuffle will focus on the interior ministry, which is to be split into two ministries.
One will be charged with police and preventive security forces as well as internal civil affairs under the name of interior ministry, while the other will be called the national security ministry leading the other Palestinian security apparatuses, the official added.
Meanwhile, the official said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not set a new date for the legislative elections before settling disputes with the parliament over a new election law.
"A new date for the parliamentary elections will be determined after consultations with all Palestinian national and Islamic powers," he added. Abbas announced earlier this month a postponement of the legislative elections originally scheduled on July 20 in order to allow more time for the passage of a new election law which is to oversee the elections.
The delay has sparked strong opposition from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which is set to have a strong performance in its first parliamentary bid.
