China's CPI up 1.8 percent in May

The National Bureau of Statistics of China revealed on June that the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.8 percent in May over the same month of last year.

Specifically, the CPI in urban areas rose 1.4 percent, outpaced by the 2.4 percent increase in rural market.

From Jan.to May, the CPI climbed up 2.4 percent from the first 5 months of last year.

In May, there was a year-on-year rise of 2.8 percent for food prices and 1.2 percent for non-food products. The price hike registered 1.2 percent for consumer goods and 3.6 percent for services.

The NBS showed on June 10 a 5.9 percent growth of producer price index (PPI) in May over the same month of last year, higher than the 5.8 percent in April and the 5.6 percent in March.
