An independent committee in charge of the salary of the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and after-post arrangements submitted a report to the administration on June 9, proposing an annual salary around four million HK dollars, exactly at the same level with the current standard and about 12.5 percent higher than that of the Chief Secretary for Administration.
Chairman of the committee told the press that according to suggestions in the report, the current salary scheme would continue to be applied on the chief executive who is to come out through by-election, while the new salary plan will be implemented for the third chief executive who is expected to assume office in July 2007.
The committee also suggested that the administration should provide a proper and permanent official residence for future chief executives. If the chief executive, out of any reason, decides not to move in, then he will have to pay his housing by himself.
