More than 30 senior officers from 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on June 13 began a week-long workshop host by Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
The workshop is a concrete action to implement the memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of non-traditional security issues signed by China and ASEAN in last January. Both sides also issued a five-year work plan in line with the memorandum.
Vice-Minister Meng Hongwei on Monday spoke highly of the cooperation in anti-drug, anti-terror and other criminal cases between China and ASEAN, and called for more effective measures to prevent cross-border crimes.
The attendees are senior police officers responsible for anti-drug, counter terrorism and criminal detection in their countries, some of them have participated in the cooperation with Chinese police to fight against drug trafficking and transitional kidnapping, according to the organizer.
Besides the contents about police task, the officers will learn comprehensive information on China's economic and social development. All these will help a lot in future police cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, said the organizer.
