China holds centennial commemoration of late leader Chen YunA grand centennial commemoration of late Chinese leader Chen Yun, hailed as one of the founders of China's socialist economic construction, was held in the Great Hall of the People Monday morning in Beijing. Top leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun and Luo Gan attended the meeting. President Hu Jintao, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech at the meeting. More than 3,000 people from all walks of life in Beijing attended the meeting. Chen, a native of Shanghai, was a veteran member of the CPC and had long held important leading positions in the CPC's Central Committee. He bowed out of the CPC Central Committee at the 13th CPC National Congress in 1987, and became chairman of the CPC's Central Advisory Commission, an important advisory body to the party's top decision-makers.
