NE China province sees surge in trade with DPRK

Liaoning Province saw a 66.8-percent surge in trade with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the first five months of 2005, which stood at 332 million US dollars, according to statistics from the customs in its capital Shenyang.

Of the total, Liaoning's export jumped 60.3 percent year on year to 229 million US dollars and import soared 85.4 percent to 104 million US dollars.

Life necessities and consumer goods of higher levels ranging from instant noodle, cigarette, and soap to bicycles, sewing machines and TV sets are the major exports of Liaoning to the DPRK.The province mainly imported aquatic products, clothing, anthracite, iron and steel, ore and unwrought zinc alloy from the country.
