China denies building aircraft carrier

China is not building an aircraft carrier, said an official at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office in Beijing on Thursday when asked to comment on a rumor that China is building aircraft carriers in Shanghai.

"I can tell you no as I am in charge of the defense industry", said Zhang Guangqin, vice director with the State Commission of Science and Technology for National Defense Industry.
