An opinion poll released Thursday showed that Danish voters will reject the European Union (EU) constitution if the referendum is held now.
According to the survey reported by the Danish News Agency, the "no" camp would get a relative majority of nearly 41 percent while the "yes" camp only 32 percent, indicating that Denmark would reject the constitution.
Some 27 percent may abstain from the referendum, the survey said, adding the Danes' positive attitude towards the EU constitution has changed tremendously after the French and Dutch voters said "no" to the charter.
Earlier Thursday, the Danish government announced it had postponed plans to hold a referendum on the constitution in September, following an agreement among EU leaders to extend the deadline for ratifying the treaty.
"The referendum plan for Sept. 27 is postponed. A new date has not been set," Danish Prime Minister Ander Fogh Rasmussen told reporters.
In Brussels, the EU leaders agreed Thursday to extend the November 2006 deadline for ratifying the EU constitution, without deciding on a new date.
