Long-lasting friendly relations with Japan an objective of China

China attaches much importance to developing good-neighborly and friendly relations with her neighboring countries. And it is as well China's objective to develop long-lasting good-neighborly and friendly relations with Japan, and China is making efforts in this regard, said Liu Jianchao, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman at a press conference on June 16.

Liu made the above remarks when asked to comment on some Chinese media's reports that initiative was seen in China's foreign policy through the urgent return of vice premier Wu Yi during her recent visit to Japan.

Liu said, China's foreign policy is formulated based on the will of the Chinese people, in other words, China's diplomacy is the diplomacy of the Chinese people and serves the Chinese people. It also serves the objective of safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.

Developing cooperation in various fields with all other countries in the world based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence is a very important starting point of China's diplomacy.

However, it needs joint efforts by China and Japan to improve and develop bilateral relations and Japan especially should, proceeding from the principle of "taking history as a mirror and looking forward to the future", take a correct attitude towards historical issues and the Taiwan question.
