Known as "Silicon Valley of China", Zhongguancun encompasses 68 universities including Qinghua University and Beijing University, and more than 200 research and developmental (R&D) institutions including the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The first state-level high-tech park was established in Zhongguancun in 1988.
