Sri Lanka's rebels Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is expecting the Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) to be signed as early as possible without further dilly-dallying, the Sunday Observer reported on Sunday.
Commenting on the current political situation with regard to the P-TOMS, LTTE spokesperson Daya Master was quoted by the paper as saying that reaching agreement on the P-TOMS has already been delayed by the political turmoil.
"We believe that the path is now clear for the Government of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to make the P-TOMS a reality. The majority of political parties in Parliament have taken a positive stance towards the P-TOMS. So tabling the P-TOMS in Parliament would lead to further misunderstandings and a chaotic situation in the country," Daya Master said.
He also said the LTTE considered the P-TOMS as entirely a non- political and humanitarian arrangement and there would not be any delay on its part in accepting it.
Sri Lanka's major coalition partner, JVP or the People's Liberation Front, quitted the government on Thursday due to its stiff opposition to the controversial joint mechanism (P-TOMS) with the LTTE for tsunami relief co-ordination in the north and east.
With the JVP's decision to quit the government, the government has been reduced to a minority in the 225 member parliament, plunging the country into a period of political uncertainty.
