New Zealand navy fleet visits Shanghai

A fleet from New Zealand arrived at the port of Shanghai here Friday for a five-day good-will visit.

The fleet, composed of an escort vessel and a supplementary tanker, is headed by captain Jack Raymond Steer, a senior navy officer of New Zealand defense force.

The fleet has a crew of 226 members. During their stay in Shanghai, they will visit a missile escort vessel made by China and a number of local scenic and cultural sites, including the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Museum and Yuyuan Garden.

The visiting escort vessel, named Hmnzs Te Mana, is 109 meters long and 14.8 meters wide with a displacement of 3,600 tons. The supplementary tanker, named Hmnzs Endeavour, is 138.1 meters by 18. 4 meters with a displacement of 12,390 tons.
