Flood threatens Canada's western city of Calgary

Canada's western city of Calgary issued an emergency order Saturday evening as its two main rivers are running wild, media reports said.

Calgary Mayor Dave Bronconnier urged all Calgarians to stay away from the waterways, and to follow all directions by emergency personnel.

The order affects an estimated 2,000 to 2,500 people in about eight neighborhoods in Calgary, the largest city of Alberta Province.

The Bow River, one of the two overflowing rivers in the city, is flowing higher than it ever has in recorded history.

It is now flowing at 2,000 cubic meters per second, in comparison to a normal flow of 100 cubic meters per second.

Flooding also hit areas in the south and northwest of Calgary.
