Canada's national carrier Air Canada has cancelled the airline's plans to buy a new fleet of Boeing jets, the airliner said in Ottawa Sunday.
The carrier has cancelled an order it placed in April for 18 new Boeing 777's to be delivered next year. The order also called for the delivery of 14 new 787 Dreamliner jets in 2010 to replace Air Canada's aging 767's.
The Air Canada Pilots Association had recommended ratification of the tentative agreement on costs and other issues related to the Boeing order. Air Canada president Montie Brewer said the cancellation of the order is disappointing, but will not affect the restructured airline's future plans.
He said Air Canada will now be looking to buy some used aircraft to meet its needs.
