font size

Police in Hong Kong, Macao and the Chinese mainland have arrested more than 1,600 people during 12 days of coordinated vice raids in their own jurisdictions, the police said in Hong Kong on June 19.

In the joint operation carried out into the early hours of Sunday, Hong Kong police seized some 90 million dollars, including 3 million in cash, the police said.

The action, code-named "Glaring Sun", targeted organized crime, including vice activities, gambling, dangerous drugs, and pornography, as well as pirated DVDs and VCDs.

The swoop involving police counterparts on the mainland and Macao also targeted the smuggling, sale of contraband cigarettes and unmarked oil.
