The public security department of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province and Russia far east security department reached an agreement in Harbin on June 19 on intensifying the cooperation in crackdown of cross-border crimes.
The consensus was made after the two parties' week-long consultation including the summing up of their past cooperation and the exchange of the experience and problems in the long-term cooperative mechanism between police of the two nations.
According to the agreement, China and Russia police will strengthen the information exchange concerning the cross-border crimes, provide wider protection over citizens from the both countries and further extend the room of cooperation.
The closer trade and scientific and technological cooperation between China and Russia have also brought about rising cross- border criminal cases in recent years, said Sun Bangnan, vice head of Heilongjiang provincial public security department.
During the past three years, the police of the two nations have cooperated for more than 20 times and effectively cracked down the cult, weapon smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal border crossing.
"The agreement will serve as a solid base for a more pragmatic and efficient cooperation between China and Russia police," the official said.
