US government donates 100,000 dollars to China's disaster-hit areas

US ambassador to China Clark T. Randt Tuesday offered 100,000 US dollars to the Red Cross Society of China as disaster relief for China's five disaster-hit provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

They are the provinces of Hunan, Guizhou and Sichuan, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the municipality of Chongqing.

Since 2002, the US government has donated more than one million US dollars to China's disaster-affected areas through the Red Cross Society of China.

At the donation ceremony held in the US embassy in Beijing, Su Juxiang, vice-president of the society, thanked the US government and people for their humanitarian help, saying her society will make good use of the donation by purchasing and distributing daily necessities to victims as soon as possible.

Since May this year, some areas in China have been hit by natural disasters including floods, mud-rock flows, rainstorms, tornados and droughts, which have affected 22 provinces, autonomous regions and cities, causing great loss of life and property.

According to the Red Cross Society of China, it has so far allocated relief goods worth nearly 10 million yuan (about 1.2 million dollars) to 14 provinces, autonomous regions and cities that have been severely affected by the natural disasters.

Moreover, the society has also sent psychologists to provide psychological assistance, and medical teams to offer medical aid to the victims.
