A senior leader of China's top political advisory body called for its members to actively contribute to the building of a harmonious society.

"The ongoing drive to build a harmonious society in China has provided valuable opportunities for the united front organizations and CPPCC to break new ground in their causes," said Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during his research tour in Beijing from Tuesday to Wednesday.

"The united front and CPPCC organizations should give play to their advantages and actively contribute to the building of a socialist harmonious society," said Jia, who visited villages, urban communities and schools during the research tour.

The united front work, led by the Communist Party of China, refers to efforts to pool resources of various sides for the national construction.

Jia urged the united front and CPPCC organizations to actively make suggestions to the building of a harmonious society and do a good job in uniting people and rallying power for the drive.
