Newly appointed Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive (CE) Donald Tsang left for Beijing Thursday morning to take his oath at a ceremony presided over by the central government on June 24.
Accompanying Tsang is Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung, Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam and several other officials.
Mrs Tsang is also accompanying Tsang to Beijing.
According to a decree signed Tuesday by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Tsang assumed his office on June 21 and his term will expire on June 30, 2007.
Donald Tsang was the sole valid candidate in the Chief Executive election and has automatically become the CE designate of the HKSAR.
